Description

「壇城」乃梵文Mandala的意譯；音譯為「曼陀羅」「曼荼羅」或「曼達拉」。古印度時代，壇城是指國家的領土與奉神的祭壇。而在密續，壇城的意思是「擷取精華」。若依「外、內」分析內涵，壇城的外在意義，是指諸佛菩薩本尊安住的淨土宮殿；內在意義，則是眾生心的清淨相；淨土宮殿正中央的本尊，就是眾生本來清淨的佛性。所以壇城不僅象徵本尊的智慧和威德，同時也是一種顯示宇宙真理的圖繪，一種「無限的大宇宙」和「內在的小宇宙」相即的微妙空間，在藏傳佛教常作為觀想修行之憑藉。
